SALT LAKE CITY — A task force from Utah is on its way to Louisiana to help those impacted by Hurricane Laura.

The task force is made up of more than 80 personnel from several Utah fire departments and districts.

They have loaded up with gear and are driving the roughly 36 hours to Baton Rouge.

When they arrive, they’ll be ready to help in any way they can.

“The boats that we’ve got loaded already, it’s probably going to be getting people out of their houses, people off of rooftops, just people that have been stranded, often pets,” said Jake Schaugaard, a rescue specialist with Unified Fire Authority.

The task force is expected to be deployed up to a couple of weeks depending on the damage caused by Hurricane Laura.

Hurricane Marcos is expected to hit the area on the heels of Laura.
