Drugstore giant Walgreens Boots Alliance will waive charges for home delivery of prescription medicines as the elderly and others at high risk for complications from the Coronavirus strain COVID-19 are urged to stay in their homes.
Effective Friday, Walgreens is “waiving delivery fees for all eligible prescriptions during this evolving situation,” the nation’s largest drugstore chain said.
CVS Health announced a similar effort earlier this week as retailers, health insurance companies and other healthcare companies eliminate hurdles to getting medicines as surge of cases and infections from the virus sweeps across the U.S.
Aside from home delivery, Walgreens said its working with its pharmacists and health insurance company partners to “ensure patients have access to the medications they need.”
“The company is reminding customers of a number of available services, including Walgreens Pharmacy Chat, a secure platform available 24/7 online and through the Walgreens mobile app, as well as pharmacy drive thru for customers looking for alternative ways to access their medications,” the company said in an announcement Thursday afternoon. “Customers are also able to use the drive thru to purchase a handful of select products.”
