The Duke and Duchess of Sussex however revealed they had not wanted to know the gender of their child beforehand and wanted the revelation to be a surprise. Speaking to The Today Show, Ms Tominey said: "I’m as speculative about this as you are because, let’s face it, no one has any idea what the gender of the baby is, what it’s going to be, where it’s even going to be born right now. But my money is on a girl.

"There were two incidents where the evidence pointed in that direction. Firstly, was told during a walk-about ‘I hope it’s a girl,’ and he said ‘so do I.’

"I don’t know whether he was giving anything away then.

"Equally, remember the baby shower in New York last month? There were lots of pink roses and pink balloons arriving."

"I don’t know whether that was just because it was a girly affair or whether that was also meant to be giving away some sort of secret signal."

Meghan Markle in January revealed to royal fans she was six-months pregnant, which suggested her to be in late April or early May. The Duchess of Sussex began her in March and hasn't been seen on official duties since paying tribute to the victims of the New Zealand shooting on March 19.

The excitement surrounding the arrival has pushed punters to place their bets on potential names for the newest member of the , and numbers suggest the public is certain the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will indeed welcome a baby girl.

Traditional names such as Elizabeth and Diana have emerged as favourites with Ladbrokes putting Elizabeth's odds at 5/1 followed closely by Diana at 6/1 but a third, less traditional name has also slipped in close contention.

Ladbrokes' Alex Apati said: "Punters are convinced Harry and Meghan are having a girl and all the money right now is going on 'Grace' in the baby name betting."

Punters may have been listening closely to Meghan's close pal, tennis ace , who appeared to accidentally reveal the sex of the baby in an interview earlier this month.

Speaking about the advice she would give to new mothers, Serena told E! News: "My friend is pregnant. And she was like, ‘My kid’s gonna do this,’ and I just looked at her and was like, ‘No, she’s not. No, you’re not.’”

The verbal misstep was not acknowledged any further in the interview but many royal fans believed Serena may have been referring to Meghan.

The Duchess has been preparing for the arrival in the newly-renovated on the Windsor Estate, a wedding gift from the Queen.

Meghan and Harry are thought to have picked a gender-neutral design for the baby’s nursery, as well as vegan paints.

A royal source told The Sun: "Meghan has been looking long and hard at paints for the Sussex nursery.

"Rather than opt for fashionable Farrow and Ball paint in favoured shades such as Wevet, Peignoir and Pavilion Grey and Salmon, the Sussexes are much in favour of The Organic & Natural Paint Co’s Auro range for the nursery."

Meghan and Harry are thought to be counting on the support of the Duchess of Sussex's mother, Doria, who Harper's Bazaar has claimed to have joined the couple in Windsor on April 16.
