The LA County Fair is seven months off, but people can get a taste of it in just a few days.
An event called the Bite-Sized Fair opens Friday, Sept. 10, at the Fairplex in Pomona.
It will feature more than 30 stands serving the kind of foods that are deep-fried, covered in Flaimin’ Hot Cheetos dust, mounted on sticks and described as giant or colossal.
The LA County Fair traditionally takes place in September, but after being closed down by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, it announced it will move to the spring when it returns in 2022. It will run May 5-30.
The Bite-Sized Fair will feature many of the same vendors at the regular fair. They include Chicken Charlie’s and Biggy’s, two fixtures on the fair circuit known for their wild offerings.
Chicken Charlie’s will be serving such items as chicken sandwiches with ice cream and Krispy Kreme donuts for buns, brownies doused in buffalo sauce, bacon-wrapped pickles as pineapples stuffed with shrimp, according to the event website.
Biggy’s will serve turkey legs and enormous corn dogs coated in Cheetos as well as bacon-wrapped pork bellies.
Other vendors specialize in fair favorites such as kettle corn and funnel cake.
And Southern California fast food brands such as King Taco, Pink’s Hot Dogs and Hot Dog on a Stick will be there.
Some vendors will offer samples for $3 that include deep-fried Twinkies, Dole Whip with Fruity Pebbles, and half of a Big D doughnut from Texas Donuts.
Bite-Sized Fair will also feature more than 20 carnival rides, according to the website. Prices start at $20 for 40 tickets.
It will take place on weekends through Sept. 26 in the parking lot outside the Auto Club Raceway, one of the facilities on the 487-acre Fairplex property. Visitors will park in Lot 17.
All tickets must be purchased online in advance. The event has announced it will not accept walk-up customers. Also, beer and wine must be purchased with credit cards, according to the website.
