Never buying on Esty ever again. The seller scammed me, never sent my order and Etsy keep throwing the ball to other agents. Still no refund. Still no answer after sending 2 emails. I've chatted them, they say they can't help with this issue by chat, I've gotta wait for an answer from the email??? This makes no sense and I'm so pissed off. They do not protect buyers from scammers, even tho their site is full of them.

Buying on Etsy was a great mistake. I spended about €2.200 buying, a necklace, sinks, faucet and a jacket. All of them were defects. The sink's suppose to be from brass. I paid €381 for it. After a while, it start rusting. When I contacted the shop, it doesn’t exist anymore. And when I contacted Etsy, they said they can’t help me since the shop is closed. This is the perfect way to earn money by cheating. Anyone can open a shop, selling for ten thousands euros all kind of rubbish and within weeks close the shop. Walla! I hope people read the reviews before throwing their money into the garbage.

I purchased bead markers from Jillsbeadedknitbits on Etsy. I wrote a 5 star review but commented that I was a bit disappointed in the pendant size. It appeared larger to me in the picture. I received a scathing reply that I had placed criticisms in two reviews after doing multiple orders and the vendor was quite upset. She said that this would hurt her with Etsy. She felt that she was doing me a favor in doing a custom order. I paid for her to go the custom order! So in summary, the vendors are forcing you to write 5 star reviews with wonderful comments or they do not want to do business with you. The system is so automated that it takes more than a road map to convey your dissatisfaction. I will no longer do business with this vendor because she does not value her customers! I will no longer write reviews on Etsy! Please beware that the review is constrained by Etsy rules levied on the vendor for which they have no control.

I've been selling on Etsy for 10 years now with 2 different shops. It used to be a great way for me to get commissions on custom items, though working with customers on custom items can still be difficult. But the fees! I don't think I really understood how many fees I was being charged when I first started, and it was just a side gig at the time so I wasn't vigilant. They've only raised the rates over the last few years while small businesses are closing due to the crazy high inflation right now. They did raise the rates before it got this bad, but I'm sure they knew the recession was going to hit its seller-base hard even back then.

Their payments/statements page seems to be intentionally difficult to navigate in that it has no search or filter and the even BLOCKED the command F function so you can't search them yourself - you have to download a CSV file and (if you don't have Excel) upload it to Google Drive to search it, or go through manually for the details. If you click the details and need to go "back" to reference other fees or pick up where you left off, you have to find the right page again, because it does not infinity scroll or hold you place. Even if you find what you're looking for in the CSV, you probably have to go back and sift through pages of statements to find it again for details on the order (or USPS adjustment details, which happens to me all the time and is often an incorrect charge for a shipping service you did not upgrade to or receive).

I've complained multiple times and they basically just say "we'll look into it" or "we'll keep that in mind next time we make an update" but I doubt they will. Their updates are rarely helpful and usually just screw up my listings and workflow. I can't even add new FAQ anymore. But let me get back to the FEES: Everyone is automatically opted in to offsite adds that charge you 12-15% of the order total. If your store makes more than $10k in revenue, apparently you can't opt out of this.

Now, remember I said order TOTAL (not item total or just the item they clicked on the ad for) so that % is taken after taxes and shipping are added. I got an international order where the customer upgraded to the most expensive shipping possible and paid much more in shipping and taxes than on the item itself. They bought 2, so after all other fees I received 45% of the listed price for them, but if they had only gotten 1 it would have been even less than that - so no profit was made. This is ridiculous!

They even act like they give you a great discount on shipping (including their super shitty "Global Postal" shipping through USPS that causes me so many headaches with international customers) but they charge you a 6.5% processing fee on shipping! So there's a $0.20 relisting fee for each individual item, a processing fee that's another $0.25 + 3% of the order total including taxes and shipping, a 6.5% transaction fee on the order total including taxes and shipping, and potentially a 15% offsite add marketing fee.

The only positive thing I have to say after looking at my statements is that at least they take care of the sales tax for you so you don't have to get a seller's permit if you only sell on Etsy, but I have my own website and have to take care of sales tax on that myself anyway. They have definitely stopped investing in custom service as much as they should. It is difficult to get them to hold up to their end of the bargain on customer protection as well - if a package gets lost they're literally like "we're supposed to cover that for you and fund a replacement, but that will take a while, so you should just send it for free now and not ask us for money to prevent your buyer from getting mad and leaving a bad review of your shop" *eye roll.*

So, yes Etsy provides a captive audience who at least used to primarily be people who want to support small businesses and craftspeople, but... it's also starting to try to be Amazon instead and buyers have become less and less considerate/understanding. Etsy doesn't support sellers as much as they used to and now are mostly just preying on them. Sure there are some benefits compared to other platforms but I'm not feeling very positive about the outlook for us.

Don't bother! I started my shop a month ago and had it suspended twice for so called "verification". The first time the process went smooth but the second time Etsy refused the verification because my bank account didn't have a $200 balance! So because I'm poor my shop was suspended. No help from the system. Just a regurgitated response saying my shop couldn't be restored until I had $200 in my account.

If I'm the seller then why do I have to have a certain amount of money in my own account? Makes no sense and I've already scheduled deletion of my account. Funny thing is all my fees are already paid and upon request for deletion. I get a pop up message stating it will take $0.20 out of my bank account balance of $0.22 in order to close my shop. First I'm too poor to have a shop and now I have to pay to close it even though it's suspended. TALK ABOUT A SCAM! DON'T SELL ON THIS CRAP SITE UNLESS YOU'RE OK WITH BEING ROBBED!!!!

If I could give a minus I would. Created an Etsy shop - spent two weeks uploading our handmade goods - nothing copied or copyright that many on there have and are classed as Etsy star sellers. We made our first sale after paying for Etsy adverts. The shop was suspended. We made an appeal. Within 30 mins we received a response saying our appeal was rejected and there would be no reason as to why we had our shop shut down. In the email they stated that we could not reply to Etsy either. Absolute sham of a company. Avoid them like the plague.

Etsy just closed my shop account without any explanation or reasoning. Their support team did not bother to answer my follow-up messages asking for details of the account closure. It was couple of months ago and till date I don't know why my shop account was closed. Consider selling on Etsy as a last option if you do not want to lose all your hard work you put on listings all of a sudden

Not recommended! Bad system! Not professional! Etsy is a scammer. This website is not safe. Banned a shop for no reason. Take all of money in account. Did you earn your company by doing this? Warning: Don't waste your time here.

To anyone who is considering selling though Etsy platform: my store was suspended just after 2 weeks with no explanation! I had to write an appeal which was declined with no explanation as well! Terrible business model! Not to mention fees and no customer support whatsoever! Don't go there, nothing but an aggravation!!!
