"Disaster Preparedness for the Mental Health Professional: Caring for Self and Other"

with Trey Cole, PsyD, ABPP

Description:
Increasingly, mental health professionals are confronted with the impact of man-made and natural disasters, encompassing effects on both the person who experienced the event and the clinician. As such, developing an increased and nuanced understanding of these events and their unique traumatic influence is essential in offering helping services.

Objectives:
1) Participants will be able to articulate the differences between man-made and natural disaster events, including their unique contribution to mental health.
2) Participants will be able to differentiate interventions that may/may not be experienced as helpful in the wake of disaster-related events.
3) Participants will be able to identify aspects of traumatic events which may impact their own psychological health and self-care strategies.
