Join Pastor Tammy Heinrich for Monday Mornings in the Word. The class is lecture-based with plenty of space for questions, laughter, and lively discussion.  Offered both in-person and on zoom.

“The Big Three -- Samuel, Saul, and David” (A study of 1 and 2 Samuel)

The Gospels often identify Jesus as the son of David.  And many of Israel’s religious leaders at the time of Jesus envisioned a David-like messiah who would help the nation break free from the oppressive grip of the Roman Empire and return it to its glory days.  And yet … the office of “king” was not a part of God’s plan for the nation of Israel!

Join us as we explore the origins of kingship in Israel, the power and influence of the prophet Samuel, and the reigns of the first two kings of Israel -- Saul and David.  We’ll unpack the desperate attempts of Saul to maintain his power base and keep his mental health in check; and watch as David -- a man after God’s own heart -- finds his house plagued by family disfunction, misplaced desires, betrayal, and violence.

Commitment

The class will begin on Monday, Sept 11, and continue weekly (with some time off during holidays) through May 13.
