Delta’s coach cabin on international flights is becoming more like first-class
Passengers on some flights abroad will get a welcome-aboard cocktail, hot towel service, bistro-style dining, and more.
This fall, passengers flying coach internationally on Delta Air Lines will enjoy services usually reserved for travelers seated in the front of the aircraft.
Delta announced this week that all main cabin passengers flying internationally will enjoy complimentary cocktails, hot towels, and bistro-style dining. The service begins in November.
“This is about investing in every single customer who chooses Delta, no matter where they sit on the plane,” said Allison Ausband, Delta’s senior vice president of in-flight service, in a press release.
Over the past year, Delta has tested the new international main cabin service — “designed to create ‘wow’ moments that feel like dining in your favorite splurge restaurant” — on more than 700 flights between Portland and Tokyo, according to the release. The new experience, designed by flight attendants, has been fine-tuned following the input of more than 1,800 customer surveys, according to Delta.
As a result, come November, passengers flying internationally on Delta will enjoy a welcoming message by the lead flight attendant in the gate house before a personal greeting at the boarding door. Shortly after departure, flight attendants then will serve complimentary Bellinis as a “welcome aboard” cocktail, comprised of sparkling wine and infused peach puree. After that, passengers will receive a hot towel for their hands.
Next up, Delta flyers will enjoy a bistro-style meal, where they can mix and match upgraded appetizers and larger entrees inspired by Delta One dishes such as the Harissa shrimp appetizer. Meals will be served on new custom-designed dinnerware with upgraded cutlery, and each passenger will receive a placemat. Dessert will follow, with a choice of coffee, tea, complimentary wine, or water.
After the meal, guests will receive another hot towel, followed by chocolates as a departing gift.
The new service will be offered on international flights scheduled for 6 1/2 hours or longer, as well as shorter international flights where Delta One or Delta Premium Select is offered, according to the release.
