Geotechnical engineering

Position Statement:
Candidates are sought with expertise in emerging and transformative areas of geotechnical engineering who also have interests in collaborative research. Potential areas of research interest include but are not limited to: sustainable geo-infrastructure, environmental geotechnics, biogeotechnics, geotechnical hazards engineering, geotechnical flood protection systems, geotechnical impacts of climate change, sustainable energy and carbon sequestration, and other new frontiers in geotechnical engineering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will: 1) establish an externally funded research program in geotechnical engineering and related areas; 2) advise, mentor, train, and support graduate and undergraduate students in research and professional development; 3) work with regional and government agencies on basic and applied research; 4) work on interdisciplinary teams to tackle pressing problems in geotechnical engineering; and 5) promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the discipline, Department, College, and University.

Qualifications Required:
An earned doctoral degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
Promise in success in securing competitive external funding.
Success in scientific/engineering research demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
Capacity and ability for excellence in teaching and mentoring.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the discipline, Department, College, and University.
Hold a PE license or the ability to obtain one.
