Brooklyn Resists: Outdoor Exhibition Opening
We invite you to join us in celebration of the long history of Black resistance and protest in Brooklyn. This event is free and open to the public.
Join us for the kickoff of the Brooklyn Resists outdoor exhibition at the Center for Brooklyn History, on the corner of Clinton and Pierrepont Streets.
Featuring remarks by NYC Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, BPL President & CEO Linda Johnson, and historian Dr. Brian Purnell.
Since the 1600s, to value Black life, Brooklynites have put their bodies on the line. They have promoted education as activism. They have turned celebration into political demonstration. They have formed alliances and allyship. Using images and text to portray these four themes, the Brooklyn Resists exhibition proves that while racism persists, Brooklynites resist.
Curated by historian Dr. Brian Purnell and designed by Little Mega, the Brooklyn Resists exhibit is on view at the Center for Brooklyn History through September 30, 2021.
