Rivian delivered fewer than 500 EVs though October 2021, with plans to reach 1,000 by the end of 2021. Tesla, by comparison, delivered more than 600,000 EVs by the end of September.
Days before the IPO, former Rivian executive Laura Schwab sued the company for gender discrimination, saying Rivian has a “toxic bro culture.” Rivian has not commented on the suit.
Electric cars are expected to comprise about 20% of all new vehicles in the U.S. by 2025 and as much as 50% by 2030.
