2. Tell Us What You Think About Our Food! 

The Division of Food and Nutrition Services (DFNS) wants to hear from you! DFNS is seeking feedback from staff, students and parents on what you want to see more of on school menus. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey and give us your input. Survey results will directly impact menu development.

3. Coming Soon: Bus Tracking App

The pilot phase for the self-service bus app is underway and the MCPS Department of Transportation is collecting valuable input and feedback from participating families to inform the full launch across the district. The app will provide real-time bus location and information for assigned bus routes for students eligible for transportation service.

4. Upcoming Events, Reminders and Resources:

• Registration opens Friday, Jan.19 for the 16th Annual HBCU Fair. This free in-person event at The Universities at Shady Grove will provide students in Grades 8–12 an opportunity to meet representatives from more than 50 Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Read more.

• On Tuesday, Jan. 23, MCPS, in partnership with the Asian American Health Initiative and the Montgomery County Government, will have a screening of the documentary film, “Silent War: Asian American Reckonings with Mental Health,” followed by reflection from one of the individuals in the film and a moderated panel discussion. • Looking for something for your junior to do when school is out on Monday, Jan. 29?

  MCPS, in partnership with the NAACP Parents’ Council and Johns Hopkins University, will host a Junior Day college event for rising minority seniors to learn about scholarships, financial aid, interviews and more. Buses, breakfast and lunch will be provided. Read more. Register. 

• Save the Date: Join us for the Girls’ Summit on Saturday, March 9 at Northwood High School. This event will provide informative workshops geared towards middle and high school girls on a variety of current topics. Join us for a chance to network, participate in fun activities, learn valuable skills and enjoy a fashion show presented by White House Black Market celebrating diverse body types.

  Watch the latest episode of “To the Point” to learn more about Student Service Learning (SSL) hours, how students earn them and why this is a graduation requirement. 

• Seven MCPS Schools Awarded National PTA School of Excellence

  Board of Education members Shebra Evans and  Brenda Wolff joined Superintendent Dr. Monifa McKnight and Montgomery County Councilmember Natali Fani-González to celebrate John F. Kennedy High School’s national PTA School of Excellence. Kennedy is one of seven schools who recently earned this award. Read more.

• Martin Luther King, Jr. Service Day: Dozens of MCPS students participated in the annual Montgomery County MLK Day of Service held on Jan. 15. The day kicked off with in-person service projects designed to benefit the community and concluded with a free gathering.
