Energy Express seeking AmeriCorps members

Energy Express Kids

WVU Extension Energy Express, an award-winning summer reading and nutrition program for children entering grades first through sixth who live in rural and low-income communities, is seeking AmeriCorps members to serve as community coordinators and mentors from June 17 to July 26.

Training will take place prior to the program to give members and volunteers time to plan, set up and meet each other.

AmeriCorps members are needed at county sites across West Virginia.

Energy Express is a beneficial part of a child’s summer. AmeriCorps members and other volunteers will work with site supervisors to create a meaningful experience for children.

Along with providing a rewarding personal experience, AmeriCorps members earn an education award, living allowance and service hours. College students who serve as mentors are eligible to receive a $1,459.26 educational award, $3,726 living allowance and 300 service hours.

Mentors who participate in Energy Express also gain leadership skills and personal growth, as well as create meaningful relationships within your community.

To be eligible to serve as an AmeriCorps volunteer, you must be at least 18 years old before June 5, 2024.

Applications are available now.
