CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Active cases of COVID-19 in West Virginia rose by over 100 on Wednesday, according to the state Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR), as the agency added over 1,000 new cases in its report.
The DHHR confirmed 3,154 active cases in its report. That total is down by nearly 400 active cases from the weekend.
Hospitalizations due to COVID-19 are at 332 patients statewide, near a four-month high. Patients in the ICU total 44, which has been around the same figure for most of July.
No new deaths were confirmed Wednesday. Total deaths remain at 7,129 attributed to COVID-19.

During Tuesday’s coronavirus press briefing, Dr. Clay Marsh, the state’s coronavirus czar, said that “now is an important time” for people to review their vaccine status and receive any additional doses. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends a coronavirus booster dose for anyone 5 and older; adults 50 and older and people who are immunocompromised, as well as 12 and older, should consider a second booster dose.
