West Virginia Governor Jim Justice said there hasn't been a COVID death reported in West Virginia for the past 11 days.

There are still 1,078 active cases and new positive cases this past weekend amounted to 1,466.

Justice said that doesn't mean it's time to drop the guard.

"This thing's not gone,” Justice said. “It's not gone. But we can live with it, through our boosters and vaccines and everything, we're finding a way to live with this.”

Maj. General James Hoyer (ret.) said the Joint Interagency Task Force continues to watch all the health data, including the possibility of a post-holiday surge.

"The good news is that the numbers right now are manageable,” Hoyer said. “But as was pointed out, we can continue to get people to take those vaccinations, whether it's the flu vaccine, the COVID vaccine, those will help us blunt those particular surges and allow us to manage our way through this more effectively.”

State officials said it appears the spread of RSV has slowed nationwide.
