A 76 Gas Station in Altavista sold regular gas for just $0.76 on Thursday! Drivers lined up early to join in on the deal.

Some drivers said they haven't seen prices like those in over a decade, and they even called it a blessing. "Compared to what we've been paying, this is kind of a blessing ... for a lot of people," customer Charlie Hudson said.

For customer appreciation day, the 76 Gas Station on Main Street in Altavista offered gas for $0.76 a gallon starting at 11 a.m. and if you weren't in line before 1 p.m., you missed out on the deal.

They were the only gas station offering this price and if customers used the fuel forward app, additional deals applied. With the app, you can get prices as low as 31 cents a gallon.

"For a lot of everyday customers ... they're filling up a couple of gallons here and there just to get by," Shiv Patel, the president of Heas Energy said. "We're hoping that this event brings those people that need a full tank of gas."

Heas Energy is the fuel distributor for the 76 Gas Stations in the central Virginia area. He says every July 6, they pick a different location in the area to celebrate and give back to their customers.

"We can't do it every day, but we can at least afford to do it every July 6th," Patel said.

Some customers said they can use the extra money their saving for things like groceries and other items they need. "Life is so expensive and life is hard, so the little things like cheap gas just mean so much," customer Amanda Tascone said.

While customers waited in line, the station held a giveaway and also presented Amazement Square in Lynchburg with a $10,000 donation. In an effort to make the wait comfortable, the station also had games available and sometimes even offered free water, food, and even gift cards.
