Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory accelerates legal tech innovation with Global Legal Hackathon 2019

Technology a key force in the global future of law.

Across the globe, 6,000 innovators came together for 52 hours to develop new solutions to advance the legal industry at Global Legal Hackathon 2019 - the largest legal technology event in the world. As a leader in legal innovation and a global sponsor of #GLH2019, Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory is an integral part of the international initiative to accelerate legal technology innovation.

After a decade of debate about legal sector transformation - if, when and how it would happen - it's clear that the global future of law is underway, and that technology is a key force for change. #GLH2019 kicked off with Hackathon weekend (February 22-24) with intensive innovation sprints worldwide. Participants then worked in teams to create technology solutions focused on improving the practice of law and access to legal services.

With 52 hours to innovate, teams worked around the clock to brainstorm, code and develop prototypes to address the challenges facing legal professionals. The first-round competition culminated in presentations assessed by a panel of judges, with one winner at each location. The winners now move on to a virtual semi-final round in March. The global final round and gala will be held in May, with a judging panel of prominent industry leaders.

Wolters Kluwer hosted or sponsored hackathons in nine locations, including Amsterdam, Bucharest, Budapest, Frankfurt, Madrid, Milan, Warsaw, New York City, and the greater Chicago area - with over 700 participants and resulting in 90 new concepts for innovative solutions.

“It was incredibly exciting to see Global Legal Hackathon participants – from various backgrounds and geographies – come together with the common goal of improving the legal sector worldwide,” said Stacey Caywood, CEO, Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory. “Legal professionals today are looking for technology that helps them achieve better outcomes through analytics and insights, and higher efficiency and productivity. Wolters Kluwer is dedicated to developing these solutions and #GLH2019 is another opportunity for us to collaborate with other innovators to deliver impact for professionals.”
