Note: Must be fluent in Korean, Mandarin, Spanish or Vietnamese to volunteer for this project.

Many voters whose votes were burdened and/or have been completely disenfranchised feel like their issues were their own fault, or that no one cares about their experiences. Listening to peoples’ stories and collecting their declarations is an important way to help ensure that these voters’ voices are heard. Also, declarations have been becoming essential and persuasive evidence in election-related civil rights litigation. The stories help to personalize the legal issues and create an important narrative for courts to visualize how failures in elections systems disenfranchise or unconstitutionally burden voters.

During early voting (December 14-31, 2020) and on Election Day (January 5 2021), voters will likely and unfortunately experience many issues at the polls and with absentee voting that in many cases may be indicative of attempts at voter suppression. We want to collect and document voter stories through declarations. We are focused on collecting declarations in Georgia.

We are increasing our outreach and need legal professionals who are fluent in: Spanish, Korean, Vietnamese, and Mandarin.

• Timeframe (when is the need i.e. now, day of the election, etc.): Declaration collection is an ongoing project; we collect declarations throughout election cycles and as people determine whether their absentee ballots were counted after Election Day. The need for volunteers is now through January 15, 2021.
