Eric Perakslis, PhD, is the Chief Science and Digital Officer at the Duke Clinical Research Institute & Professor of Population Health Sciences at the Duke University School of Medicine.

Prior to his appointment, Eric was a Rubenstein Fellow at Duke University, focused on collaborative efforts spanning medicine, policy, engineering, information technology and security. Immediately prior to his arrival at Duke, Eric served as CSO at Datavant, Lecturer in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at Harvard Medical School, and Strategic Innovation Advisor to Médecins Sans Frontières.

Eric was a Senior Vice President and Head of the Takeda R&D Data Science Institute, where he built an integrated institute serving all aspects of biopharmaceutical R&D and digital health. Prior to Takeda, Eric was the Executive Director of the Center for Biomedical Informatics and the Countway Library of Medicine, an Instructor in Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School, and a faculty member at the Children’s Hospital Informatics Program at Boston Children’s Hospital.

Eric has served as Chief Information Officer and Chief Scientist (Informatics) at the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. During his time at the FDA, he authored the first IT Strategic Plan and was responsible for modernizing, enhancing the IT capabilities and in silico scientific capabilities.

Prior to Eric’s FDA role, he was Senior Vice President of R&D Information Technology at Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceuticals R&D and a member of the Corporate Office of Science & Technology. While at J&J, he created and open-sourced the tranSMART clinical data system, which is now being freely used by hundreds of healthcare organizations. During his 13 years at J&J, Eric also held the posts of VP R&D Informatics, Director of Research Information Technology and Director of Drug Discovery Research.

Eric currently serves on multiple SABs, Boards of Directors and actively advises many biotech and digital health companies.

Charles Fracchia

Mr. Fracchia is the Co-Founder and Chairman of BIO-ISAC, the Bioeconomy-focused information sharing and analysis center. The BIO-ISAC is an international non-profit organization that addresses threats unique to the bioeconomy and enables coordination among stakeholders to facilitate a robust and secure industry. He was the founder and CEO of BioBright, the company that created the first -and still only- end-to-end encrypted data collection and analysis from laboratory and biomanufacturing environments. BioBright was acquired by Dotmatics in June 2020 and the group has since become the largest life sciences software company in the world.

Charles received his graduate education between the MIT Media Lab and Harvard Medical School and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Imperial College London. Charles gained critical experience from his work at IBM Research and Ginkgo Bioworks where he was respectively the first synthetic biologist and first full-time person outside of the founding team. He has received a number of awards including MIT Technology Review’s 35 under 35, IBM PhD fellowships and the Extraordinary Minds fellowship.

In 2021, the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) named Charles Fracchia to its Information Science and Technology (ISAT) Study Group. Mr Fracchia is passionate about solving problems at the intersection of biological industry and national security in ways that inflect the trend for persistent defensive advantage.

Frederic (Fred) Lancaster serves as AstraZeneca’s Global Head of Cybersecurity.

Following a successful 25-year career in the U.S Intelligence Community as a Naval Cryptologist and contractor, Fred joined Alexion Pharmaceuticals, where he served as Chief Information Security Officer for 4 years. With the acquisition of Alexion by AstraZeneca, Fred now has responsibility for all aspects of AstraZeneca’s global cybersecurity program and operations.

During his time in the U.S Intelligence Community, Fred deployed and operated a full spectrum of cyber capabilities for the U.S., Five Eyes, and NATO. He has led both small, highly focused mission teams along with large scale multidisciplinary, joint government and industry teams. His experience derived from the national security domain includes broad base knowledge in the cyberspace environment, digital technologies and solution implementation. Fred’s non-conventional perspective and practical approach to cyber, drives him to challenge the status quo, while focusing on delivering value-added outcomes for the business.

Fred is a proud father to five and actively celebrates his indigenous roots by participating in native American ceremonies and support activities. He is dedicated to serving patients, colleagues, the cybersecurity community, and advancing good things for humanity.
