January is National Mentoring Month. Let us use our collective voice to advocate for mentorship. GME faculty and trainees grow professionally and personally through experiences of mentorship. The Office of RISE appreciates the time given by USF GME community members to mentor residents, fellows, and students in scholarly endeavors!
In GME, mentorship serves to enhance mastery of curriculum content and is important in conveying various non-clinical aspects of training like professionalism, networking, values, clinical judgment, and other soft skills that are not easily taught in a structured curriculum format. We encourage faculty and trainees to reach out to your programs to engage in mentorship (mentor/mentee) as it can be rewarding for both the mentor and mentee in the following ways:

January is also International Creativity Month. Let's start the year with a touch of creativity and innovation in our activities.
Can we get creative with how we mentor? Let's re-imagine residency education!
Creativity drives transformation and challenges the status quo. We encourage engagement with your programs, departments, and each other to develop innovations in training to meet changing societal needs.
Creativity is important to tackle the challenges of current and future workplaces, because it stimulates the search for original solutions which are needed in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.
Lastly, encouraging creativity and enjoyment during training can provide future physicians new skills to advance their medical knowledge while maintaining their personal satisfaction and enjoyment.

The USF GME Resident Assistance Program (RAP) is established through non-University staff to assure privacy and freedom from interaction with colleagues or supervisors. RAP is committed to assisting residents in any area of their personal and professional life so that they may go through residency in a balanced, growth-producing manner.

Up to the eight (8) visits per year by you and/or each of your dependents at no charge to you or your family member.
|
|
RAP is staffed by highly qualified professionals to assist with multiple areas of concern such as work-life balance, emotional health concerns, relationship struggles, substance use, family matters, grief or loss, legal or financial concerns, and professional development such as time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

He specifically helped my team with training one of our interns how to do a procedure. His assistance was greatly appreciated as were spread thin that day with multiple procedures at the same time. We wouldn't have been able to get everything done without him!"
"He constantly advocates for trainee wellness, does so with active involvement in RAC and on wellness committees, always willing to speak up on behalf of the trainees. For thanksgiving he helped deliver and coordinate lunch for residents and then saved unwanted leftovers to bring to the homeless community after work."
