What was the moment you knew you wanted to represent your country in the Olympic Games? Was it always in the sport of water polo?
The Olympics have been a dream of mine since I was a kid, but originally I wanted to play soccer. I was a big fan of Mia Hamm.Â
What is your hidden talent?
Board games involving luck. Above all, when I play with my sisters. And I’m decent at arcade basketball.Â
What is your favorite karaoke song?
I always end up singing “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” by Deep Blue Something.
If you could compete in another sport during the Olympic Games what would it be and why?
Basketball. I love the pace of the sport and the room it leaves for creativity.
What is one thing you have to have with you when you travel?
Noise cancelling headphones. Makes for a peaceful journey.
Biggest superstition if you have one?
I’m not really superstitious.
What is your biggest fear?
It’s wildly unrealistic—but floating off into space.
What causes are most dear to your heart?
Education and equal opportunity.
What are two truths and a lie about you?
Truth: I don’t like seafood.
Truth: I’m secretly a better goalie than Ashleigh Johnson.
I can’t think of a lie.Â
Do you have a nickname? How did you get it?
I have a ton of nicknames, but “Jamo” is the most popular. When I was a baby, a foreigner who lived with my family pronounced my name that way instead of “Jamie.” And the rest is history.
What song would be included on your life’s soundtrack?
“Gone” by Jack Johnson.
What advice would you give your younger self, and what would you remind your older self?
I’d advise my younger self to be courageous when faced with difficult situations/choices, and I’d remind my older self of the same thing.Â

Thank yous, comments, etc.: Endless thanks to my family members who’ve taught me to love what I do, learn how to do it better, and listen to those who can help me.
