Playlist: What's Briston Maroney listening to?
Briston Maroney is kicking off his first international headlining tour this fall after a new music video for his single "Fool's Gold" and his recent EP "Indiana." He's celebrating with a new playlist for USA TODAY, featuring thoughtful selections from Courtney Barnett, Wilco and more.
"King of the Rodeo" – Kings of Leon
I've always loved the guitar work and how insane his voice sounded on the early records.
"Lazy Eye" – Silversun Pickups
I love the slow burn of this track and how satisfying it is once it blasts off into indie rock space.
"A Shot in the Arm" – Wilco
I love that this could've been an old country/western song but it comes from a place of twisted truth that makes it transcend to hipsters and cowboys/cowgirls alike.
"Georgia" – Kevin Abstract
A great pop song that takes me back to the mid 2000s R&B/rap I secretly loved.
"U (Man Like)" – Bon Iver
I'm a huge fan of gang vocals in general, but especially ones this buttery and powerful.
"City Looks Pretty" – Courtney Barnett
Love the simplicity and the imagery. She is the new archetype of a rockstar in my mind.
"Come to Me Now" – Kevin Morby
This song puts you right on the smokey dance floor you picture from the second the track kicks off. Insane suave.
"Didn't Know What I Was In For" – Better Oblivion Community Center
Some of my favorite songwriting I've heard in so long. (I'm) infatuated with their harmony...and their merch.
"Slack Jaw" – Sylvan Esso
So atmospheric, so simple, so beautiful. That opening line is insane.
"Daft Punk Is Playing at My House" – LCD Soundsystem
The only song that makes me dance hard to the point of physical exhaustion in any setting regardless of whether or not it's appropriate.
