Join the City of Tampa in Preparing for 2022 Hurricane Season

This information is 1 year 10 months old and may no longer be accurate.

Mayor Jane Castor, along with Daniel Noah from the National Weather Service, Tampa Fire Rescue Fire Chief Barbara Tripp, Tampa Police Chief Mary O’Connor and Brad Baird will discuss the 2022 Atlantic Hurricane Season and how residents can prepare to be storm ready.

The Atlantic Hurricane Season occurs June 1 - November 30. Forecasters are predicting above-average hurricane activity this year with 14 to 21 named storms. Between three and six of those are likely to be major hurricanes, according to the National Weather Service.

Hillsborough County has also recently updated its evacuations zones this year, causing many city residents, including those who live in East Tampa and Seminole Heights, to be included in a storm evacuation zone for the first time.

Mayor Castor wants to remind residents to be Tampa Ready with three easy steps:

  • Make A Plan
  • Get A Kit
  • Stay Informed

"It’s critical to make a plan in case disaster strikes,” Mayor Jane Castor said. "Preparing now before a storm hits will help keep yourself and your loved ones safe. From having a prepared emergency kit, to knowing your evacuation zone, I encourage all residents to take action and be Tampa Ready by making a plan, getting an emergency kit and staying informed by texting TampaReady to 888-777 or TampaLista to 888-777."

Media visuals will include a look at the City of Tampa's Emergency Response Crew Vehicles, including a TPD high water rescue vehicle.
