Cyber Attack, Defense

My Students

I teach at a large, urban, public school with almost 1,030 students. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with the majority of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch. Our school is one of the most ethnically diverse schools with a very active military influence.

I teach future authors, members of the military, doctors, teachers, engineers, and productive future contributors to society.

I teach students who are always asking why and ready to take learning to the next step.

My Project

This computer and Samsung Pro TV (as a display screen) will help my students learn about women in STEM careers! I was motivated to create this project by the winning project in the If/Then Collection: "If We Build Up Girls, Then We All Become STEMinists" and "Women in STEM Exploration". Using this computer and display screen, my students will study positive female role models from the Lyda Hill If/Then Collection such as Flor Larson, a computer engineer, who detailed how she became interested in programming while in high school, and her subsequent schooling to get her bachelors degree and masters degree, to her profession as a cyber security analyst. I would also have my students study Jess Cramp, Shark Researcher, Marine Conservationist, National Geographic Explorer, who volunteered with a few different organizations to see where her interests would lead her, and she ended up changing laws to protect sharks! Technology is important so my students see what each woman in a STEM career looks like, that they are of all different races, all different ages, and so my students can see themselves in this same position. My students will be able to watch the highlighted person in action, and explore different careers within STEM.
