91 Wildcats on SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Student-athletes in their first year at the University of Kentucky combined to earn a total of 91 spots on the Southeastern Conference First-Year Academic Honor Roll, the league announced Tuesday.

Kentucky had several teams finish among the top three in the SEC in their sports.

  • Men’s tennis is first in the league in that sport with four honorees
  • Men’s golf tied for first in the league with three
  • Women’s golf is second in the league with four
  • Women’s tennis is second in the league with three
  • Men’s swimming and diving is second in the league with eight
  • Women’s soccer is third in the league with 10
  • Gymnastics is third in the league with four

The 2019-20 First-Year Academic Honor Roll is based on grades from the 2019 summer and fall terms, along with the 2020 spring term. Among other qualifications, a student-athlete must have a 3.0 grade-point average for the entire year to earn a place on the honor roll.

Tuesday’s news is a continuation of the academic accomplishments of UK student-athletes:

  • In October, it was announced that UK Athletics broke one school record and tied another for NCAA Graduation Success Rate and Federal Graduation Rate. UK has broken or tied the GSR record every year since the NCAA began measuring that statistic in 2005.
  • UK athletes have posted an overall grade-point average over 3.0 in 16 consecutive semesters.
  • In May, it was announced that a school-record seven UK teams won APR public recognition awards for being in the top 10% in the nation in their sports.
  • 97 Wildcat student-athletes earned degrees during the 2019-20 school year.
