Access & Safety

Facility Access Info

The Plant is wheelchair accessible, though, due to the nature of the space, some floors are slightly slanted and bumpy. Guides will be on hand to help navigate this during the event.

Please be aware that the facility is not ADA-accessible. The Plant is in the process of modernizing their elevators, with the expectation that the first of three ADA-compliant elevators will be operational by mid-2022. Additional accessibility improvements are in the works. For the event, frieght elevators will be managed by staff.

Street parking is available around The Plant and additional accessible parking and paratransit drop off locations will be made available during all Unfolding Disability Futures events.

Event Flow & What to Expect

Unfolding Disability Futures takes place over four events on June 4-5 & 11-12. Each performance cycle, audiences will be guided through The Plant in groups of ten, experiencing five original dance works set in various locations throughout the building, as well as the six visual artist spotlights. Performance cycles begin every half hour over the duration of all four events with a total of five performances per event. Each performance cycle runs about an hour.

As plans are finalized and rehearsals progress, we will add more information here about the style, setting and timing of the performance. If you have any questions in the meantime, please reach out to us at unfoldingdisabilityfutures@gmail.com.

Sensory Information

Moving around, stimming, making noise, etc are welcome and encouraged during these performances. Please feel free to bring any access tools that might help you feel as comfortable as possible during your performance cycle, including, but not limited to; ear defenders/plugs, fidget tools, headphones, etc. Some of the performances will include loud, sometimes overlapping noises. If at anytime these become overwhelming, guides are available to direct you to quiet zones and will come get you to rejoin the cycle when the current performance finishes.

Please note: The Plant has several live plants growing around the building. One of the performance spaces has Citronella growing in it. These will be clearly marked and guides will be available to direct you around these plants, if needed.

If you feel you might need some sort of access tool during this event, but do not have it or the ability to acquire it, please reach out to us at unfoldingdisabilityfutures@gmail.com.
