I am currently working on three research/outreach projects focusing on sustainable aquaculture of shellfish and seaweed in the Pacific Northwest.  These projects include: 1) working with Chris Langdon (Coastal Oregon Marine Experiment Station, OSU) and Greg Rorrer (Chemical, Biological & Environmental Engineering, OSU) developing novel approaches to intensify land-based production of high value seaweeds, including Palmaria mollis and Gracilaria pacifica; 2) working with Brett Dumbauld (Agricultural Research Service, USDA) to design and initiate a sentinel program to monitor the prevalence and pathogenesis of Ostreid herpesvirus (OsHV-1) in juvenile pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) at commercial growing grounds along the US West Coast; and 3) working with Susan Rowe (Precollege Programs, OSU)  to implement an Agriculture Distance Education Toolkit utilizing novel augmented/virtual reality technologies to support online delivery of STEM-based education.
