Virtual Teaching Lodge

Rooted in Gichi Gaakinoo’imaatiwin (The act of greater or deep teaching) an Indigenous inspired design for Turtle Island Institute’s online platform to serve as a hub for communications, connections, and individual and community distance-learning offerings, such as online events, programs, workshops.

Mashkiki (Medicine)

A four-phase project that will convene an expanding group of systems-change leaders who are Indigenous, Black or of color, and occidental systems change practitioners. Through each gathering, we seek to build capacity for diverse systems-change leaders to work with intersections of colonization and racism in the many systems change efforts that they are working in and expand understanding of Indigenous practices and healing traditions among participants as a way to cultivate deep awareness and inform transformational systems change.

Gikendaasowin (Our Ways of Knowing)

Grounded in collaboration between the Waterloo Institute for Social Innovation and Resilience (WISIR) and Turtle Island Institute (TII) to create and test a suite of social innovation methodologies and tools, rooted in culture, spirituality and the tacit knowledge of Indigenous change-makers, in order to support the training of Indigenous facilitators, designers and evaluators.

The Gikendaasowin Workshop Series emerged as both the design and prototype of an Indigenous social innovation process rooted in land, culture, spirituality, and the wisdom of Elders and Knowledge Keepers.  

Field Building

Indigenous systems change field building, training, and peer network development for diverse systems change leaders, including the Indigenous leaders of the EleV partnership focused on amplifying individual and collective capacity to effect change by connecting theory to action.
