Toronto police arrest suspect in 2-day bank robbery spree

Toronto police say they’ve arrested a man suspected of going on a robbery spree over a two-day period in the Toronto and Mississauga areas.
Police allege John Tiano, 59, of no fixed address robbed five banks and three financial service companies between Saturday November, 12 and Monday, November 14.
Seven of the robberies took place in Toronto in the Yorkville, Downtown-Yonge, Islington-City Centre West and Regent Park areas. One robbery took place in the Dundas Street East and Dixie Road area of Mississauga.
Police say in each case the suspect entered the premise and approached a teller, handing them a note and demanding cash.
In some of the instances, police say the suspect fled with a quantity of cash.
Police say Tiano was arrested on Monday in the area of the last robbery he’s accused of committing.
Police further allege that he was in possession of stolen cash at the time of his arrest.
Tiano is facing eight counts of robbery with an offensive weapon, three counts of utter threats and one count of being in the possession of proceeds of crime.
