When A Service Desk Isn't Enough: One-on-One Tech Assistance
Wednesday, September 13, 2023
10:00 -11:30am
The most common complaint I hear about technology from patrons is "My device is smarter than me," and that's simply not true! Tech help is one of the most difficult types of assistance a library can offer as the range and uses of technology has increased while instruction booklets have decreased. Meanwhile the help most patrons turn to first is their young, tech-savvy, but impatient family members. Then they come to the library, upset and with it stuck in their heads they are too old or too foolish to understand tech.
In order to best serve these patrons' myriad of needs, the standard service desk and programs were not enough to satisfy the diverse and sometimes traumatic experiences patrons have. Instead, Kenosha Public Library has developed an empathy-focused technology service focused on providing one-on-one assistance. Join Zander Miller in learning how this library service developed at Kenosha Public Library and the impact the service and style of care these appointments have had.
