Dear students,
I am reaching out in light of last night’s tragedy at Michigan State University.
Our thoughts are with the Michigan State community as they begin to process the deaths of three students in a shooting that also left five students badly wounded. The gunman, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was not affiliated with the university, and police have not yet released a motive.
This news is deeply upsetting and heartbreaking for us all, and it is understandable that these continued acts of senseless violence—particularly when they occur on college campuses—leave many of us shaken.
Please know that Vanderbilt stands ready to support you and that your safety is our priority.
Our Public Safety department continually monitors for threats to our campus and is committed to protecting the safety and security of all members of our community.
I also encourage you to reach out to the following support resources whenever needed.
Sincerely,
G.L. Black
Vice Provost and Dean of Students
