Block Break Programming

Campus Activities, in conjunction with many partners, offers programming during all block breaks and many extended breaks*, such as Fall, Winter, and Spring Breaks - *for students with extended break stay approval. The Block Break digests are released the third week of each block and will let you know what is being offered for the upcoming break both online and on-campus. Please be sure to keep an eye on the Outdoor Ed Summit page as many of their trips and offerings fill before the Block Break Digest emails.

The Campus Block Break Planning Committee is made up of representatives from Campus Activities, the Butler Center, the Wellness Resource Center, the Chaplains' Office, Global Ed, Outdoor Ed, the Advising Hub, the Residential Experience, the Career Center, Bemis School of Art, the Collaborative for Community Engagement, and Campus Recreation. Spring Break Digest

Spring Break is almost here! If you are planning on remaining on-campus for some or all of spring break, be sure to request break stay approval ASAP if you have not done so already.

  • Spring Break RA’s will be on duty and available during the entire Break. The Big 3 Front Desks will also be open daily until 10 pm. You can contact them for assistance by calling the numbers below:

  • The Student Health Center (SHC) will be fully closed for Spring Break beginning on Saturday, Mar. 25. They will reopen on Sunday, Apr. 2, with hours from 11 am – 4 pm.  
    • Students should contact the Optum Medical Center Point Urgent Care, (719) 636-2999, if they are feeling unwell to determine if they should be tested or need to see a medical provider during the closure.   
  • The Counseling Center will be open Monday, Mar. 27 & Tuesday, Mar. 28 during normal hours (9-5 pm). They will be closed Wednesday, Mar. 29 - Friday, Mar. 31, and will reopen for normal hours on Monday, Apr. 3.
    • There is always a 24/7 counselor on call as well as after-hours phone counselors available at (719) 389–6093, press 2 (after-hours phone counselors ends April 1).
    • As a reminder, Virtual Care Group provides all students with free, unlimited access to therapists and on-demand Counseling 24/7/365. Additionally, students can always contact Campus Safety.  
  • The Campus Advocate on-call line will be closed Mar. 29 - Apr. 2
  • Campus Safety is ALWAYS here (24/7/365) and the campus is never fully closed! If you are ever in need of assistance, you can give them a call at the following numbers:

  • Flying out of DIA or COS? Students may book a one-way shuttle ticket from campus to the Denver or Colorado Springs airport at the Worner Desk on either the afternoon of Wednesday, Mar. 22 or the morning of Thursday, Mar. 23. Space is limited and spots are filling quickly; sign-up in person at the Worner Desk. Return trips to campus are to be coordinated by the student. From DIA, students can use Groome Shuttle, by calling (719) 687-3456 indicating they are CC students in order to be dropped off on campus. Students flying into COS can use a ride-share app or local taxi service.

  • Needing to get around town over break? CC Students are able to use their Gold Cards for free Metro Transit access; check out the bus route maps and schedule here. Also, sign-up for a FREE Pike Ride account to take advantage of the bikes on campus.    
    • Did you know that you can ride the Metro bus from campus up to the University Village Shopping area/Costco, Trader Joe's, and more? Pick up near the 7-11 on Nevada and 17 minutes later you arrive at the shopping plaza. Use the trip planner to explore more routes.   
    • The ZEB can get you downtown and back.   
    • Campus Safety will be able to do grocery shuttles during day and afternoon shifts for winter break as staffing permits; call 719-389-6707 to request.

Spring Break Hours    

Most administrative offices will be open for regular hours and staffed over the first portion of spring break (Thursday, Mar. 23, Friday, Mar. 24, Monday, Mar. 27, and Tuesday, Mar. 28). So, this is a great time to catch up on outstanding business or get your resume reviewed if you will be around. 

This year, staff are excited to also get a short spring break! This means most non-essential services and offices will be closed from Tuesday, Mar. 28 at 5 p.m. through Monday, Apr. 2 at 9 a.m. Please keep this in mind as you make plans for

The CC Pantry is a space led by Campus Activities which provides free food and supplies for students who are struggling financially or facing food insecurity on campus. What is whirly ball? The endorphin-inducing, truly unique, and exhilarating experience combines lacrosse, hockey, basketball, and bumper cars in a game of skill coupled with a touch of chance. Join Outdoor Education for a relaxed, fun bike ride on bike paths around central Colorado Springs. The path is generally flat and makes for easy riding while traveling through a few local parks and green spaces. If you can ride a bike, and you are looking for a bit of fun, trip is for you. Outdoor Ed has a fleet of super fun e-bikes that we will use for this trip! Come try one out! It's hard to not smile while cruising around on these bikes! 

Arts and Crafts Open Studio, 2 – 5 pm, Worner Lower Level  
Spend some time in the Arts and Crafts studio on Fridays from 2-5 creating and getting to know each other. These afternoons are open to everyone, and no experience is required to join in, we will rotate through block printing, painting, fibers, drawing, and clay.

History Stroll: Women's Voices, Women's Lives, 10 am, Loyal Coffee (408 S Nevada) 
What did suffrage mean to the lives of women in the Pikes Peak Region? By examining the historic working-class neighborhood of south downtown, we will discover women’s stories of work, activism, and philanthropy. BreakOut Service Trip- YMCA Shady Brook 3/27-3/30, Sign up here by Sunday, March 19th 
Join BreakOut for a fun trip to the YMCA of the Pikes Peak Region, camp Shady Brook. The service project will be focused on mainly trail work with a couple of other projects like painting and cleaning. The group will be staying at the YMCA facility and all meals and transportation will be provided. Come pick up some supplies to unwind over break with a snack included. Come by the Worner Desk on Tuesday, beginning at 10 a.m. to pick up a packet. Outdoor Education Trip – Beginner Mountain Biking at The Pineries - 12:45 pm-5:30 pm, Sign up here by Monday, March 27th.  
Want to go mountain biking? Join us for a day of mountain biking at The Pineries in Black Forest. It's going to be a great day learning to mountain bike and having some fun adventures! The planned route is an 8-mile loop that makes its way through a section of old-growth forest. This trip is open for all ability levels but is designed with the beginner mountain biker in mind. To attend, you must know how to ride a bike and be comfortable riding for several miles on hilly paved and gravel paths. We will take many breaks throughout the ride, so don't feel as though you need to do the entire ride in one go! Outdoor Education is providing fat-tire mountain bikes for this trip, but if you have your own mountain bike, you are welcome to use that! Helmets are required for this trip - bring your own if you have one, or we will provide you with one of ours. 

FAC’s Bemis Clay Studio is Open to All 1:30 pm-3:30 pm   
Open to CC students and employees, non-instructional clay open studio.  Feel free to sculpt, throw pots, or just mess around in a space you’re allowed to make messy.  Clay and tools are provided, no experience is necessary.  Attend as much or as little of the time as you’d like.  Runs Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 pm-3:30 pm, open-house style.

Experience a rare behind-the-scenes look at our theater. Visit the prop room and costume shop, where we make almost all of the costumes you see in our stage productions. Go backstage (and even under the stage) to learn about the theater’s rigging and fly systems.

Students can get FREE rush tickets an hour before the show by showing their CC ID, in-person at the Box Office. There are 10 In the Heights Performances happening over spring break so if you cannot make one of them, there are several options to choose from. Don’t forget to check in at the desk to enter the Spring Break raffle.
