Abraham Named Metro Region Field Athlete of the Year

Galloway, N.J. – Stockton University senior Shahyan Abraham (Orange/Orange) was named Metro Region Field Athlete of the Year by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Abraham became the first Osprey ever to be chosen regional Athlete of the Year since the inception of the awards in 2006.
 
Abraham will finish her indoor season by competing in the weight throw at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships tomorrow at 3:00 p.m. The meet is being held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
Abraham, who will compete in the NCAA Championships for the first time, is ranked 12th in the nation with a best weight throw of 17.59 meters. The throw, which came at the NJAC Championships on February 20, set a school record and meet record and was the best in the Metro Region this season.
 
Abraham earned USTFCCCA All-Region and NJAC First Team status in the weight throw and shot put this winter. She won both events at the NJAC Championships on February 20. Abraham's top shot put of the season, a school record of 13.29 meters at the NJAC Championships, ranked second in the Metro Region.
 
Abraham was voted NJAC Outstanding Field Athlete for the season and chosen NJAC Field Athlete of the Week four times during the year. She recorded three wins apiece in the weight throw and shot put while competing at eight meets.
 
In February, Abraham was chosen as Stockton's honoree for NJAIAW Woman of the Year. She is a two-time NJAC Outstanding Field Athlete and six-time USTFCCCA All-Region performer. Abraham has amassed four NJAC First Team accolades plus NJAC Second Team and NJAC Honorable Mention once each for a total of six career all-conference honors.
 
In addition to her track & field success, Abraham is a two-time NJAC All-Academic Honorable Mention student-athlete who boasts an impressive 3.93 grade point average as an economics major with a concentration in pre-law. She has been a participant and treasurer of Stockton's Mock Trial team, and she serves as an ambassador for the Stockton University admissions office.
