Family Resources to Manage New Routines Related to COVID-19

Vanderbilt Resources 

Junior League Family Resource Center | Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital

The Junior League Family Resource Center offers a Family Health Library, stocked with information about medical conditions and disabilities. The center is free of charge and available in person or by phone, email or fax.

The Family Health Library offers:

  • Internet access, Computers and Printers
  • Videos and DVDs
  • Pediatric health topics
  • Parenting information

Books for your child about their medical condition, and books about coping, emotions and being a sibling of a child with medical needs are also available. You can also request an information packet on your child’s condition and the FRC will do the medical research for you. Feel free to email  family.frc@vumc.org to request an information packet.

You can search the FRC's physical library catalog on Vanderbilt University's website. On a search results page, an available title in our center will say Family Resource Center.

Kindermusik | Blair School of Music

This nationally acclaimed music program is designed for children from infancy to 6 years of age and their caregivers. Participants enjoy singing, listening, dancing, interacting socially, and playing simple instruments. The program offers a variety of classes and summer camp programs that focus on the child's emotional development as confidence, curiosity, self-control, and communication begin to take shape.

Blair's program has attained Maestro status from Kindermusik and is listed in the Top 5 percent of all Kindermusik programs in the U.S.  

Instructor Amy Alley has more than 20 years of teaching experience. She is a writer of the Kindermusik University Fundamentals Course for educator training and is also on Kindermusik's Peer Licensing Board.

Tennessee Disability Pathfinder

 Tennessee Disability Pathfinder is a free statewide information and referral service for individuals with disabilities of all ages serving all nationalities. . 

  • Calling the toll-free statewide helpline (800) 640-4636. Staff is available to provide free assistance in English, Spanish, and Arabic as well as all other languages through the use of telephone interpretation services.
  • Use their free online database for a directory of resources. 
  • Navigate their online resource library that includes state and national resources on a wide range of topics.
  • Check out the community calendar to find out what disability-related events are happening in your area each month. Events often include support group meetings, workshops, recreational activities, fundraisers, and many more types of activities.

Vanderbilt Kennedy Center

The Vanderbilt Kennedy University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) provides a variety of services and programs for individuals with disabilities of all ages and their families, for professionals, and the community. Many services are integrated with research and training. 

Vanderbilt Parent Support Group (Gifted Children)

Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth offers groups for parents to engage and learn more about how to support and nurture their exceptional children. Parent support groups offer families the opportunity to connect with other parents of gifted children and learn about the following topics:

  • Identification
  • Motivation
  • Teaching Self-Management
  • Intensity and Perfectionism
  • Depression
  • Communication of Feelings
  • Peer Relationships
  • Family Relationships
  • Establishing Discipline

Vanderbilt Programs for Talented Youth offers support group opportunities throughout the year. The meetings are held on Vanderbilt’s campus.  The groups are facilitated by experienced counselors and psychologists with extensive training and knowledge of the needs of gifted children.

Vanderbilt Work-Life Connections

The Employee Assistance Program of Work/Life Connections-EAP is available to Vanderbilt staff including full-time, part-time and TempForce employees and their spouses.

Personal and family problems can impact the workplace by affecting the employee's focus, health, and other productivity concerns. The Work/Life Connections-Employee Assistance Program is like a travel agent for psychological support services. With experienced, trained EAP counselors; staff at Vanderbilt report that WLC-EAP is a great place to start to resolve personal or workplace concerns. Employees seek services from WLC-EAP to deal with a variety of issues (stress, emotional health, relationships, family, financial, alcohol, drug, legal, and other personal concerns). WLC-EAP can also help an employee formulate a plan for expanding communication and personal interaction skills which may impact other workplace issues.

KidCentral TN is a one-stop shop for Tennessee families to raise healthy and happy kids. kidcentraltn.com pulls and organizes content from across state departments, making it easier for families to find what they need. In addition to articles about health, education, development, and support, kidcentraltn.com features a comprehensive directory of state-operated and state-funded services for children and families.  

In the My Profile section, parents can use enhanced features of the website including: the ability to tag articles that are important for their child and to explore unique developmental milestones based on their child’s age. Parents can also receive recommendations for articles and services that might fit their family.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library is a book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth until they begin school, no matter their family’s income.

The Family Manual 2018-2019

An annual publication that highlights what new and good to know for parents and families in the Middle Tennessee area. 

Nashville Parent Magazine

Nashville Parent is a source of things to do and guides for parents and children. Both the magazine and online directories offer candid advice and fresh ideas, connecting parents together so they can share real-world lessons and compelling stories. 

TN Justice Center

Non-profit lawyers who assist the families of Tennessee with TennCare, Medicaid, Medicare, SNAP and LIHEAP eligibility and appeals. 

Exercise & Wellness in the Community  

Blooma Nashville Yoga

Blooma Nashville Yoga offers prenatal yoga, mama-baby yoga, babywearing-friendly barre, vinyasa classes with childcare, childbirth education, kids yoga, massage, and a community of support for moms-to-be, mamas, and their families.

Iconic child development play classes for babies and toddlers bring parents and kids together for learning, socialization, play, music, dance, art, and fun!

Stroller Strong Moms

Stroller Strong Moms Nashville is Music City’s premier stroller fitness class. Stroller Strong Moms Nashville meets four times a week in Shelby Park and at the Gordon JCC, where beautiful running paths, open grassy areas, shady trees, picnic tables, and playgrounds allow us to get a full-body workout. Each class is led by our ACE certified instructor and utilizes our strollers, weights, resistance bands, and yoga mats.
