Stockton Rallies for 10-9 Victory

Galloway, NJ – Stockton University (9-7) scored five runs in the final two innings for a walk-off 10-9 win over Washington College (MD) (9-8) on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman Michael Antonucci (Manasquan/Manasquan) led the Ospreys with a career-high three hits on the day.

Stockton took their first lead of the game on the strength on a five run third innings for a four-run advantage at 5-1. The Shoremen opened the scoring with a single tally in the second, before the Ospreys sent 10 batters to the plate in their half of the third frame.

With the bases loaded, C.J. Fredericks (Jobstown/Northern Burlington) singled in a pair of runs. Robbie Ford (Green Twp./Newton), Antonucci and Max Kaplan (Wall/Wall) each picked up an RBI in the uprising.

The visitors crawled back with a pair of markers in the fourth to slice the lead to 5-3, then scored four times to take a 7-5 lead after six innings. The Shoremen added two more tallies in the eighth inning for a 9-5 lead, before the Ospreys began their rally.

In the eighth inning, RBI by Kevin Novobilsky (Ocean Twp./Ocean Twp.), Jordan Nitti (Hamilton/Steinert) and Antonio Gatti (Howell/Howell) closed the margin to 9-8 setting up the final inning. In the bottom of the ninth, Ford was hit by a pitch and Mike Costanzo (Williamstown/Williamstown) walked. A passed ball advanced the runners.

Antonucci struck out but reached on another passed ball, allowing Ford to score the tying run. Kaplan was intentionally walked to load the bases, then Novobilsky was hit by a pitch plating the winning run in the 10-9 victory.

Kaplan, Gatti and Ford all had two hits in the 12 hit attack, with Ford scoring twice in the contest. Andrew Luongo (Manahawkin/Southern Regional) picked up his first win of the season, tossing a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout.

Noah Iseman and Chase Ruppel had two hits each with Ruppel driving in four runs for Washington College.

Stockton will finish up the four-game home stand with a doubleheader against McDaniel College on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 pm.
