Show Contact Information +
Backbone State Park is Iowa's first state park and was dedicated in 1920. Named for the narrow and steep ridge of bedrock carved by the river, the "Devil's Backbone" is one of the most popular hikes in the state. This diverse park encompasses 2,000 acres of primarily hardwood forest, with a lake, trout streams, historic structures, overlooks, cabins and outdoor recreation opportunities for anglers, hikers, campers, paddlers, bikers and rock climbing enthusiasts.
