hi! I'm Wagatwe Wanjuki, an award-winning anti-rape activist and feminist theorist. I'm a freelance writer and public speaker on topics including feminism, sexual assault, social media activism, and survivor empowerment. What I do</h3>
I’ve done many different types of antirape work over the years. Some highlights from the past decade include:
 
 
Successfully campaigning the Obama adminsitration to improve Title IX enforcement. 
As a founding co-organizer of the ED ACT NOW campaign urging the Department of Education to improve Title IX enforcement, I served as a spokesperson, created the digital strategy that lead to petition with over 180,000 signatures, advised officials on changes that lead to #NotAlone and Dear Colleague Letters.
 
 
Academic influence: my work has inspired much-needed research into campus sexual assault's impact on women of color that didn't exist when I was assaulted. I regularly speak at universities and conferences about sexual assault, feminism, and digital activism. Past engagements include the National Sexual Assault Conference, Yale University, Rutgers University, and NY Social Media Week.
 
 
I provide
 commentary to media to outlets like The Guardian, Vox, and more. And I write for outlets including the New York Times, ESSENCE, Bitch Media, Cosmopolitan, Teen Vogue.

Sexual assault is one of the most serious human rights and public health crises in society, but it's <a href="http://dx.doi.org/10.2105/AJPH.2015.302860" target="_blank">barely invested</a> in. Anti-domestic and sexual violence organizations are chronically underfunded, organizations for women and girls receive <a href="https://philanthropywomen.org/research/not-enough-giving-for-women-and-girls-totals-6-3-billion-in-u-s/" target="_blank">only 1.3%</a> overall charitable giving from individuals, foundations, and corporations in 2016, and <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/19/opinion/philanthropy-black-women.html" target="_blank">only 0.6% of foundation giving</a> was targeted to women of color.
