The Johnson Center is a state–of–the–art recreation facility that is designed to provide opportunities for open recreation, group fitness classes, and personal training.

The open concept design houses weight training equipment, which includes Olympic platforms, plate-loaded equipment, barbells, and dumbbells, cardio training equipment, group fitness studios, a cycling studio, basketball courts, racquetball/wallyball courts, a four-lane running track, a climbing wall, reservable power racks, lockers, and shower facilities.  

It is a great place to gather‚ make new friends‚ and take a positive step towards lifelong health and fitness habits.

Access

Students

Current University of Kentucky students who are enrolled in regular, on-campus classes, and eligible BCTC students who have paid the recreation fee through the UK e–Store, or who are living in UK undergraduate housing, may use Campus Recreation facilities by presenting their student ID card. Students who are enrolled in the current semester, but who do not pay the Recreation Fee as part of their tuition fees, are eligible to purchase a membership.

Employees

Current UK and BCTC employees (Cooper Drive campus only)‚ retirees‚ Donovan Scholars‚ and VA employees are eligible to purchase a Campus Recreation membership.

Spouses

Spouses of current Campus Recreation members are eligible to purchase memberships.

Campus Recreation memberships provide access to Alumni Gym, Lancaster Aquatic Center, and the Johnson Center.

Day-use Lockers

Day-use lockers are located throughout the facility and are available for members and guests for no additional charge. No reservation is necessary; lockers are first come, first serve. 

All items in day-use lockers must be removed at the end of each day. Day-use lockers will be cleaned out at the end of each day. Any items left overnight in day use lockers will be placed in lost-and-found. Campus Recreation is not responsible for items left overnight in day-use lockers.

Equipment can be checked out at the control desk once the member has accessed the facility. All equipment must be returned the same day to the Johnson Center control desk before the facility closes.

Parking & Bus Service

A pay lot is located on the corner of Complex and Sports Center Drive. 

Check the UK Parking website for rules pertaining to all university parking lots, UK parking permits, and visitor parking. Parking rules are subject to change without notice. The University CATS bus runs along University Drive, which is a short walk to and from the Johnson Center.
