Duey Naatz

After 20 years as a UW-Stout football coach and instructor, Duey Naatz began his duties as the UW-Stout Athletic Director in August, 2010.

The move to the administrative chair came following three seasons as the Blue Devils' head football coach. The Blue Devils finished the 2009 season with an 8-2 overall mark, the third time in school history Stout has finished with eight or more wins in a single season. Naatz concluded his football coaching career with 17-13 overall record, improving the record every year.

Naatz, who was a UW-Stout assistant coach under three different head coaches, was named the head coach in January, 2007. Naatz begins his 19th year with the Blue Devils where he has coached the defensive backs, running backs and offensive line. Prior to being named the head coach in 2008, Naatz had been the assistant head coach for eight seasons and was also the offensive coordinator.

Over the years at Stout, Naatz has worked with several All-Americans, including linemen Jason Lehman, Josh Towner, Jeff Hutter and Ben Knepper, as well as quarterback Matt Bunyan, who led NCAA Division III in total offense and running back Luke Bundgaard, who set school rushing and scoring records. Marcus Ball was a two-time All-American defensive lineman and Kendall Wade earned All-American honorable mention honors at cornerback. Naatz also coached Lehman to a national shot put title in track.

During the three years Naatz was head football coach, the Blue Devils produced back-to-back WIAC Scholar-Athletes in Jake Pomputis and Shay Lehman.

A graduate of Moorhead (Minn.) State and a varsity football letterwinner, Naatz has been Stout's strength and conditioning coordinator for all sports. He has served as an assistant track coach where he worked with the weight events, producing a national champion and numerous All-America winners. His weight programs consistently produce National Strength and Conditioning Association All-Americans. He has been the physical education and athletic department's facility manager, has coordinated the physical education curriculum schedule and has been the coaching minor coordinator.

A native of Wheaton, Minn., Naatz came to Menomonie from the University of North Dakota where he served as a graduate assistant for the NCAA Division II Fighting Sioux football team.

Naatz and his wife, Kay, have two sons, Tyler and Adam. He is active in the community, working with his church youth group, youth baseball and basketball programs and has served as the chair of the local Ducks Unlimited chapter. An avid outdoorsman, Naatz enjoys hunting and fishing. Naatz was also an instructor in the UW-Stout Physical Education Department and was a facilities coordinator.
