Plant of the Month: Dudleya edulis
Fingertips or millykumil (Dudleya edulis), is a beautiful and odd caudiciform succulent plant that you'll find clinging to rocky slopes on the coast or in the chaparral, native to a small range of Southern California to northwestern Baja California, some of which being Kumeyaay land. Adorned with white flowers typically in the May-July months, you might see an early bloomer or two around the nursery at TPF.
This plant supports caterpillars, butterflies, birdlife, and people too! The latin epithet edulis means "edible", as the young tender leaves and inflorescences of this plant have been used as both food and medicine by the Kumeyaay people.
