Cubs make 21-year-old Jeremiah Paprocki the first African American PA announcer in team history

The Chicago Cubs will have a new voice Monday night. The team's new public address announcer, Jeremiah Paprocki, will make his debut during Monday's contest against the Washington Nationals, according to Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Paprocki, 21, is the first African American PA announcer in the franchise's history. He's also a lifelong Cubs fan who said it will be an "honor" to get on the microphone at Wrigley Field.

“To be able to sit in that chair behind the microphone at Wrigley Field of all places, it’s truly an honor. I’m looking forward to that opportunity.”

Paprocki is currently a first-semester senior at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where he also calls games.

The fact that Paprocki is the first African American PA for the Cubs isn't lost on him. He said he hopes his position inspires other African American kids to take up broadcasting.

“Being the first African American PA in Cubs history, it definitely means a lot,” he said. “I hope that it inspires other African American boys and girls out there that are interested in broadcasting that opportunities are available to you if you keep going and to never stop and to never let anything discourage you from pursuing opportunities.”
