In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a primary focus of our department is ensuring that we develop a sufficiently sized, well-trained, and more diverse public health workforce that is ready to respond to whatever emerging infectious, environmental, or other public health threats we will face in the future. In developing the Public Health Fellowship Program, we are supporting that mission by raising the standard for experiential learning in public health in our state and providing an opportunity for students from a variety of backgrounds and academic programs, both within and outside of public health, to explore public health careers and experience the critical work that local, state, and non-profit public health agencies do in communities across Connecticut every day.

CT DPH Public Health Fellowship Program

Fellowship opportunities to promote careers in Connecticut’s Public Health Workforce

The Connecticut Public Health Fellowship Program (PHFP) is a CT Department of Public Health (CT DPH) career pathway program for students across Connecticut to gain critical experience, build professional networks and launch their career in public health service. CT PHFP is administered by the Yale Office of Public Health Practice (OPHP) on behalf of CT DPH.

The PHFP aims to build interest in public health careers by supporting students in high-quality public health fellowship placements in CT and providing students with $3,500 stipends. The program is open to 3rd or 4th-year undergraduate or graduate-level students enrolled at any accredited academic institution and in any degree program relevant to public health.

Eligible placement sites include CT DPH, local health departments, and community-based public health agencies that work with state or local health agencies in Connecticut.
