General Summer FAQ's

If I am a rising 9th grader, do the health & personal fitness courses taken during the summer count for high school credit?

The grade is recorded on your transcript and counts towards graduation requirements.

*Grades from courses taken prior to entering high school are NOT calculated into the high school GPA, which would include summer school courses. (This is the same scenario as taking high school physical science or Spanish I as an 8th grader.)

Does FVA offer middle school courses in the summer?

This summer, FVA will only be offering courses for rising 9th graders (8th graders in the 21-22 school year) through rising 12th graders.

Can I take online courses if I am traveling/on vacation?

Absolutely! If you have stable internet and access to a capable and reliable device, you can take your online class from anywhere, at any time!

  • If you plan to travel to a different country, please be sure to check internet availability and any local website restrictions to ensure access.
  • Regardless of student location, all dates/deadlines are to be followed as posted in EST time.

What is taking an online course like?

Students will access their courses via itslearning and will be assigned daily work with defined due dates to ensure adequate progress is made.

Do I need to log in every day?

We highly encourage students to log in to their courses daily to ensure their required assignments are submitted successfully and to check teacher announcements and feedback. However, if a student is up to date/ slightly ahead, they don't have to log in for the sake of logging in. They need to stay on-pace or just ahead. Most courses have assignments/units due twice/week. Please assume you will need to spend 1.5 hours/ day/ .5 credit. Example: Spanish III is a full credit course, and success in the course will require approximately 3 hours/day. Personal Fitness is a half credit- the course work takes approximately 1.5 hours/day.

Are the courses self-paced?

No. You will have assignments with specific deadlines each week. Due to the condensed nature of the summer semester, it is very important for students to stay on the pace/ guidelines provided by their teachers, and submit assignments daily.

What happens after I sign up?

Once registration fees have been processed, you will receive a confirmation of your signup. Please be sure to save this confirmation, as it will serve as a receipt/confirmation of your registration. Orientation information will be provided by FVA before the Summer semester and teachers will begin reaching out approximately 1 week prior to the beginning of the semester.

Does FVA offer refunds?
