Farm Pond Restoration - Elkhorn Creek

Problem Statement

Agricultural practices worldwide create non-point source pollution. In the Bluegrass, the equine industry creates unique contaminants. Decreasing water quality and habitat life becomes an issue for landowners along the Elkhorn. The Sandersons’ pond, which flows into the Elkhorn Creek, is polluted by manure and fertilizers from the neighboring farm. An integrated solution will work to conserve habitats and aquatic life, minimize upkeep of the pond, and reduce contaminants to Elkhorn Creek.
