Chester County CAN Prevent Child Sexual Abuse

Stewards of Children is a training program that teaches adults how to prevent, recognize, and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. It is designed for parents, mandated reporters, organizations that serve youth, and individuals concerned about children’s safety. It is the only nationally distributed, evidence-informed program proven to increase knowledge, improve attitudes, and change child-protective behaviors.

The Chester County District Attorney's Office is offering free Stewards of Children virtual workshops to parents, educators, and community members. Continuing education credits are available for teachers, nurses, dentists/dental hygienists, social workers, and early childhood and school-age professionals in Pennsylvania.

Stewards of Children is part of the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative created by Penn State University. The DA's office is proud to partner with the Crime Victims' Center of Chester County, Inc., the host of these workshops.

Together we can keep children safe from sexual abuse

One in ten children will experience sexual abuse before they turn 18. It can have devastating and long-term consequences for victims as well as communities.

Chester County was awarded a competitive grant from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to partner with Penn State University and other local organizations for the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative, designed to reduce child sexual abuse rates through evidence-based programs.

Our goal is to train 5% of adults in Chester County by the end of 2021.

You can help us reach our goal by attending a workshop and encouraging your friends and family to join you in being a Steward of Children.
