We have a few different options for folks hoping to learn GIS! Check out our available courses/resources below!
For the introductory course, there are two options: to take the course/activity as an individual, or to teach the course/activity as a workshop! To learn about how to teach/lead a workshop using these materials, simply click on the "Workshop" option beneath the course/activity.
We highly encourage folks to complete the self guided course, and then share what they learned using the workshop materials.

Introductory GIS Course
There are two sets of Course Materials - Self Guided and Workshop depending on intended use.
Self-Guided - materials are set up such that any person can individually take the course.
If you are here to simply learn on your own - use these materials!To start the Self Guided course, click on the button below that says "Access Self Guided Materials"
Workshop - materials are set up such that any person can use these materials to lead a workshop! If you are here to set up a workshop for your fellow library staff (or anyone really), these materials are set up to help you teach your very own GIS class! Both sets of materials are exactly the same, only differing slightly based on their intended use (self guided learning, or a whole workshop). Please feel free to check out both options!

Quick GIS and Mapping Lessons
Once you've taken the introductory course (or if you already have a solid GIS foundation), continue to grow your skills with these short GIS and mapping lessons!

Finding and Using GIS Data
Whether you're experienced with GIS or you're just getting started, finding data to use for your projects can be challenging! To aid in your search, we have compiled a practical guide for understanding GIS data and how to find it, as well as a selection of U.S. state and other GIS data resources.
