ABOUT

Welcome! The College & Career Center holds a wealth of information and resources for students as they ponder "life after high school." Parents and students can reach out or make an appointment with Mr. Nalda in the College & Career Center for assistance with college, career, or scholarship searches. The College & Career Center also has many resources and information regarding financial aid. This is especially important for eleventh and twelfth graders.

During the school year, the College & Career Center is open 7:00am - 3:00pm. Students can come in before school, after school, or during lunch. At any other time during the day, students may come down with a pass as long as a scheduled activity is not taking place. Parents & Guardians are also welcome to schedule an appointment via email. Zoom meetings are also available.

College & Career Rep Visits to SVHS

Juniors & Seniors are encouraged to participate in visits to learn more about colleges and universities.  Students interested in participating in visits must register in Naviance.  The list of college visits is available in Naviance or on the link below.  Visit dates can also be seen on the SVHS College & Career Center Calendar (at the bottom of this page).

Snider Enterprise & Leadership Fellows Program

The Snider Enterprise & Leadership Fellows program is a transformative three-week summer course designed exclusively for rising high school juniors and seniors at the University of Maryland, Ed Snider Center, Smith School of Business. Scheduled from July 8th to July 26th, this program offers participants the chance to unlock their potential and pave the way for future success.

Key Highlights:

This program offers two options for participation: an on-campus experience and an online program. Both options provide the same enriching curriculum and opportunities for growth.

During this intensive program, students will engage in a dynamic learning environment led by award-winning faculty. They will acquire invaluable mindsets and tools crucial for personal fulfillment and self-confidence, laying a strong foundation for success in any career path.

This is a fantastic opportunity for motivated students to gain a competitive edge and connect with peers who share their drive for excellence.

Summer Junior Leader Program - Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, Germantown Branch 

Summer SSL opportunity for rising 9th graders-12th graders! We are calling all Junior Leaders to apply for our Summer Junior Leader program! Junior Leaders are volunteer club members (going into the 9th grade - 12th grade) who are interested in learning leadership skills and skills to work with youth. Each Junior Leader will be assigned to a Camp Counselor that they will assist with daily activities. The Junior Leader program allows our teen members to have an amazing summer, gain work experience and training, while earning SSL hours. 

All applicants must submit a completed application packet (application, essay, and 3 letters of recommendation) due by Friday, April 26, 2024

Montgomery College Disability Support Services (MC DSS) Information Night for Fall 2024 - May 1

Montgomery College Disability Support Services (MC DSS) is proud to announce our upcoming DSS Information Night for Fall 2024.  This event is intended to help facilitate the transition from high school to college and is best suited for MCPS Juniors, Seniors, and their families.  This year’s event will be held over Zoom on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 6:30pm.  We will have a 60 minute presentation about Disability Support Services followed by a 30 minute general question and answer period.

USG Open House - May 4

The Universities at Shady Grove (USG) is excited to welcome future students and their families to their beautiful campus this spring! Register now for their in-person Open House on their state-of-the-art campus this spring to learn how you can earn a bachelor’s or graduate degree from a top Maryland university, right here in Montgomery County.

This event is beneficial for students who are currently in high school, community college, or at another four-year institution, or who are looking to return to school after a hiatus. It is also designed for those who are considering graduate degree programs, as well as family or community members looking to learn more about the USG campus.

Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters Annual Open House - May 17

May 17th | 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM  |  8510 Pennsylvania Avenue, Upper Marlboro, Maryland, 20772

Students, adult cohorts, and workforce development partners are invited to attend and watch the best-trained, highly-skilled union carpenter apprentices compete in an all-day construction competition. 

Join the Mid-Atlantic Carpenters’ Training Centers, Eastern Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, and Carpenter Contractor Trust for a day filled with activities, vendor booths, food, and the opportunity to learn more about joining the Carpenters Union as an apprentice.
