Key Information About This Study
The purpose of this study is to gain information about the camouflaging experiences of adolescent autistic girls in inclusion. The screening activities described are for research purposes to determine if you are eligible to participate in the study. The screening process should take approximately 5-10 minutes and only includes answering some questions.
Detailed Information
As mentioned, the survey questions pertain to your voluntary interest in participating in a research study investigating the camouflaging experiences of adolescent autistic girls in inclusion. Camouflaging is the use of behaviors and strategies that someone might use to hide characteristics of autism during social situations, sometimes to "pass" as neurotypical. We are interested in the extent to which autistic girls try to hide their autistic characteristics around others in school, as well as associated benefits and costs.
Risks/Benefits of Participation
Some of the questions involve your child's medical, psychological, and educational history, and may be of sensitive nature.
You do not have to answer any question that you would not like to answer, but without answers to these questions, you will not be eligible to participate in the study.
You will not have any direct benefit from participating in this pre-screening survey. By completing and saying YES to this form, you are consenting only to the completion of this pre-screening survey so our research team may determine if you qualify.
Confidentiality
All efforts, within reason, will be made to keep your personal information from this pre-screening confidential but total confidentiality cannot be guaranteed. All data collected will be stored on REDCap. REDCap is a secure web application for managing online surveys housed at Vanderbilt. The information collected in this pre-screening survey will not be used for data analyses and, instead, will only be used to determine if you qualify for the study. Only the principal investigator and study staff will have access to the data.
