Possible Consequences of Not Enrolling Full-Time
Vanderbilt Issues
1. You will probably be placed on academic probation for the following semester. Students will be placed on probation if they fail to pass 12 hours. See the Vanderbilt Catalog for details and further consequences of probationary status.
2. Your ability to complete your degree requirements in a timely fashion may be compromised.
3. Should you wish to transfer to another college/school within Vanderbilt, you may have difficulty earning enough credit hours to qualify for transfer. See https://registrar.vanderbilt.edu/intra-university-transfers/ for details.
4. Financial aid may be impacted. Persons with Federal Aid and Tennessee HOPE scholarships should not drop below 12 hours without getting clearance from your Vanderbilt financial aid adviser; other sorts of aid may be jeopardized.
5. You will most likely be ineligible for Greek rush. Check with the Office of Greek Life.
6. You may be ineligible to be an officer in a student society.
7. You may be ineligible to represent the University in external affairs.
8. Athletic eligibility may be compromised.
9. You will be ineligible to earn Dean’s List honors.
Issues with Consequences External to Vanderbilt
1. Health insurance may require full-time status and might not continue through the summer. You should be covered if you enrolled in Vanderbilt’s Student Health Insurance Plan.
2. Car insurance policy may require full-time status.
3. Immigration status may be in jeopardy.
4. If you later apply to medical or law schools and are asked if you ever took a light load you will have to answer "yes".
5. You may be required to start paying back a student loan earlier than you expected.
