Obituary

Ernie Lee Scott, age 46, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 12, 2023 at his home in Partridge, KY.

Ernie was born at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital on May 10, 1976, to Howard and Iris Jean (Lewis) Scott. He was a 1990 graduate of Arlie Boggs Elementary School where he was the Valedictorian and a 1994 graduate of Whitesburg High School.  Ernie obtained his associate degree at the Southeast Campus of the University of Kentucky.  He went on to Hazard Community College and became a Radiology Technologist. He later earned his bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration at Midway College.

Ernie married the love of his life, Tiffany (Bullock) Scott on November 29, 2003 and together they had their daughter Addyson Grace Scott, the apple of his eye and his true joy.

Together they owned and operated the General Store at Pine Mountain Crossing, where they worked tirelessly to support the community.  Ernie was a Kentucky Colonel and the Director of the Kentucky State Office of Rural Health housed at the UK Center of Excellence in Rural Health. Ernie was a Rural Health Champion for this area and others.

To know Ernie was to love him. He quickly became a friend to all he met.  He always greeted folks with a smile and often a big hug.  He was a planner, a goal setter, and achiever.  He loved his family, friends, church, and his community.  He poured his heart and soul into Letcher County (specifically Cumberland River) and made huge impacts in many other rural communities.  He was a man of faith from the time he gave his heart to God at the age of 9 in a Sunday School classroom in the basement of the old Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church.  Ernie was encouraged by leaders in the church to use his talents for the work of the Lord and became an anointed singer.  He encouraged and comforted many through his singing.  He was always active in church activities, youth events, and had a very special ministry and relationship with the elderly.

Ernie thrived when surrounded by family and friends.  He was happy being the host, whether a small dinner, a large family reunion, or a house full of kids.  He had a way of making every guest feel as though he/she was the center of attention and cared for each one greatly.  He loved history, digging through family trees, and tracing genealogy of the Scott and Lewis families.

Ernie was preceded in death by his father, Howard Scott, his maternal grandparents, Ernest and Cassie Mae Lewis, paternal grandparents Leonard and Leona (Halcomb) Scott.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving family: wife, Tiffany (Bullock) Scott, Daughter, Addyson Grace Scott, Mother, Iris Jean Scott, Siblings Howard Wayne Scott (Renee) and Sherry Scott Geiger (David), along with a host of nieces, nephews, and many other family, and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the Lewis Creek Pentecostal Church from 5 until 8 PM. His funeral will be conducted Friday, March 17, 2023, at 1 PM with the Reverend Ron Oplinger and Freddie Terry officiating. Interment will follow at the DL Creech Cemetery.

Friends and family will serve as pallbearers.
